Camiel Boomsma – piano

The young promising pianist Camiel Boomsma was born in Amsterdam (1990) and started his studies with prof. Marcel Baudet at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. He currently studies with Prof. Jan Wijn.

Camiel frequently gives solo recitals and chambermusic concerts on many (major) venues in the Netherlands. Among the concerthalls in which he performed are: De Doelen in Rotterdam, the Muziekcentrum in Enschede, the big hall of The philharmonie in Haarlem, and on numerous locations during festivals such as the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam.

Camiel has received numerous lessons and masterclasses in both solo and chambermusic repertoire  from renowned artists, both privately and during summer festivals. He participated in masterclasses by Paul Badura Skoda and Boris Berman (International Vila Seca Music Festival 2011), and received tuiton from many well known musicians such as Paul Komen, Nino Gvetadze and Håkon Austbø.  Camiel received masterclasses in chambermusic (on piano trio’s, violin/piano sonatas and piano quintets) from renowned Dutch and International musicians such as members of the Osiris Trio, Isabelle van Keulen and many others. He also performed with members of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. Camiel also has had the privilege to receive several lessons in London from pianist and Liszt specialist Leslie Howard.

Camiel has had success in both national and international piano and music competitions.

(also see: Prizes and Awards) In 2009  a 2nd prize during the Prinses Christina Competition in Haarlem. In 2010 a 2nd prize in the conservatory category of the Christina Competition in Haarlem. In 2010 a 2nd prize during the selection round of the National Competition (SNC) In 2010 a 1st prize and the ”Franz Liszt prize” for the best interpretation of a work by Franz Liszt during the National Competition (NC) organised by the Foundation for young musical talent (SJMN). In 2013 a 1st prize during the ”Young Musician International Competition ”Citta di Barletta” in Italy. In january 2013, he received a prestigious Richard Wagner Scholarschip from the International Richard-Wagner Stipendienstiftung  for his affinity with the music of Wagner.

Numerous concerts and recitals have been recorded and broadcasted by Dutch radio and television (such as radio 4, bravaNL and Cultura24).

Camiel will release his first CD: Wagner Transcriptions, on 17 November 2013, in Museum Geelvinck Hinlopen Huis, Amsterdam.
