After four seasons of welcoming distinguished artists and rare fortepianos from around the world, the International Fortepiano Salon celebrates its home: the Piano Performance Museum at the Catskill Mountain Foundation in Hunter, New York. Register here for the LinkThis special program showcases historic instruments by Johann Andreas Stein, Geib, and Ignaz Pleyel, revealing the piano’s evolution across Europe and America. Each instrument will be introduced in brief remarks highlighting its craftsmanship, touch, and distinctive sound. On the elegant Stein fortepiano, we present music by Julie Candeille, whose refined, theatrical voice captures the brilliance and clarity of late eighteenth-century revolutionary period in France. The American-made Geib piano features a Mazurka (Philadelphia: W.H. Boner & Co., 1870) by Faustina H. Hodges, reflecting the richness of nineteenth-century American piano culture and its dialogue with European dance traditions. On the luminous Pleyel—closely associated with Frédéric Chopin—we hear a Chopin waltz, alongside an expressive étude by Hélène de Montgeroult, illuminating the instrument’s singing tone and poetic nuance. Hosts Yiheng Yang, Maria Rose, and Patricia Garcia-Gil are joined by Program Director Pam Weisberg and master technician Richard Hester for an virtual Salon hour of performance, history, and conversation — where each piano tells its own story. Onze beide instellingen beheren een niet onaanzienlijke collectie historische piano’s, die regelmatig bespeeld worden. Zowel de International Fortepiano Salon van Catskill Mountain als de Geelvinck Salon programmeren concertuitvoeringen, waarbij muzikale virtuositeit en kennisverbreding van de fortepiano hoog in het vaandel staan. Catskill program director Yi-heng Yang heeft op het eerste Geelvinck Fortepiano Festival in 2011 de Eerste Prijs gewonnen.
