Dag van het Kasteel / Tweede Pinksterdag: ‘Pastorale’ – Hoorn & Piano Recital op Huys ten Donck, Ridderkerk, 9 juni 15h

Ter gelegenheid van de Nationale Dag van het Kasteel en om Tweede Paasdag extra luister bij te zetten, organiseert de buitenplaats Huys ten Donck in samenwerking met Museum Geelvinck, een voorjaarsconcert met natuurhoorn en piano “Pastorale”. Op de buitenplaats zal in elk seizoen wel de hoorn geklonken hebben, om een feestelijke bijeenkomst aan te kondigen, een jachtpartij te openen of het einde ervan te markeren. Met name in de 19de eeuw hebben veel componisten voor dit instrument geschreven, veelal met pianobegeleiding. Zo’n ‘Pastorale’ sluit helemaal aan bij het buitenleven en de activiteiten die daarbij horen, zoals het wandelen, paardrijden, de jacht en is ook in lijn met het thema van deze Nationale Dag van het Kasteel: Naar Buiten!

Nicolas explains about the concert and the choice of the instruments: “This Horn / Piano recital is a historically informed performance – meaning we play on period instruments, and with the techniques of the time. Therefore, each part of the program will be played on a different horn – the original instrument corresponding to the period and the geography of the piece, when it was composed. Then every music sounds drastically different from the others. I will provide more information on the instruments, during the performance”

After winning first prize at the Artistic Competition of Epinal in France, Nicolas Roudier studied modern horn with Phil Myers in Lausanne, and historical horns with Teunis van der Zwart at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague. Based in the Netherlands, he is today one of the leading historical horn players from the new generation of early music musicians. He gathered a collection of about 25 original horns from the 1790’s to the present, that he plays with many of the most renowned ensembles in Europe and in various repertoire, ranging from Bach to Wagner. He also performs regularly as a chamber musician and as a soloist, demonstrating his instruments and reviving forgotten repertoire. Nicolas is also co-organizer of the concert series Les Concerts du Temps Retrouvé in France, and founder of the music publishing company Artescripta.

Mako Kodama is a Japanese pianist and fortepianist based in The Hague. Known for her expressive artistry and dynamic stage presence, she performs a wide repertoire on both modern piano and historical fortepiano. She has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician across The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, France, and Japan, with highlights including concerts at the Mendelssohn House, Grassi Museum, and the Utrecht Early Music Festival. In 2025, her first CD as Duo Flânerie (with violinist Saaya Ikenoya) will be released under Da Vinci Publishing. Born in Gifu, Japan, Mako studied in Nagoya, Dresden, and Leipzig, and is currently continuing her fortepiano studies at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. She is a recipient of scholarships from Rotary International District 2630 and the Adriana Jacoba Fund Awards.

Muziek op Huys ten Donck

In de fraai gerestaureerde Rococo Ontvangstzaal worden regelmatig concerten gegeven. Een aantal daarvan zijn georganiseerd in samenwerking met Museum Geelvinck, met name wanneer de piano wordt bespeeld. De imposante Bechsteinvleugel uit ca 1900 is onlangs na een restauratie, op zijn plek teruggekeerd: de Ontangst- / Muziekzaal van Huys ten Donk
