Keiko Shichijo – (forte)piano
De pianiste en fortepianiste Keiko Shichijo is een bijzondere stem in de wereld van zowel de klassieke als de hedendaagse muziek. Zij verbindt een traditionele Japanse sensitiviteit met een grondige kennis van de Europese historische uitvoeringspraktijk. Dit leidt tot een unieke visie, die zich openbaart in haar gevoel voor de muziek, voor de instrumenten, en voor hun achterliggende verhaal.
Zij is afkomstig uit Japan maar heeft het afgelopen decennium in Nederland gewoond. In vele internationale concoursen heeft zij prijzen gewonnen, waaronder twee maal het internationale oude muziek concours van Musica Antiqua te Brugge (solo, en met duo), het internationale oude muziek concours ‘A Tre’ in Trossingen, Duitsland, en de Minkoffprijs van uitgever Edition Minkoff.
Keiko Shichijo heeft met veel componisten samenwerkt, waaronder Tom Johnson, Helmut Lachenmann en Bernhard Lang. Recentelijk bracht zij met Janacek Philharmonic de premier van het piano concerto van Ben Richter.
Zij is een professor voor piano en fortepiano op de Fontys Academy of Music and Performing Arts. Voor de 2019 editie van de International Competition Musica Antiqua, catagorie Fortepiano, was Keiko een jury lid.
Recent was zij te horen op onder meer het festival Printemps des Arts (Frankrijk), het Oude Muziek Festival te Utrecht, het MA Festival (België) en Canberra International Festival (Australië).
Keiko Shichijo studeerde fortepiano bij Stanley Hoogland en orgel bij Pieter van Dijk aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam, en bekwaamde zich in de hedendaagse muziek bij Daan Vandewalle aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Gent, België.
Keiko Shichijo treedt wereldwijd op, met zowel solorepertoire als kamermuziek.
Crowdfunding voor CD opname
Keiko heeft een ambitieus plan: de opname van het Mozart recital van 16 augustus vormt de basis voor een nieuwe CD.

Stein Fortepiano Dynasty
The Stein family was a dynasty of keyboard makers originally from Augsburg and later Vienna. The first maker of the family was Johann Andreas Stein (1728–1792) who was credited with developing a new action, the prellmechanik, or the so-called “Viennese” action. Stein had several children that also built pianos, including his daughter Nannette and son Mattäus Stein. The brother and sister headed the Stein shop as their father’s health failed, and after his death continued in this partnership. Nannette married Johann Andreas Streicher in 1794 and that same year the Stein shop was moved to Vienna. Nannette and Mattäus continued to build pianos together until 1802 when she and her husband started their own workshop using the Streicher name.
….. The composer and musician Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791) visited Stein in Augsburg in 1777. His purpose was to organize a concert and while there to look at the instruments of the Augsburg maker. Stein helped Mozart to produce the concert, which proved to be a great success and included a performance of the composer’s triple-clavier concerto (K.242) using three of Stein’s pianos, with both the men playing solo parts. During his stay, Mozart penned a famous letter to his father describing Stein’s pianos and giving them much praise. It is believed that Mozart returned to Augsburg in 1781, where he played a duo piano concert with his sister Maria Anna (nicknamed Nannerl).

Stein in Geelvinck Collectie
Ook in de collectie van Museum Geelvinck bevindt zich een instrument, ca. 1805 gebouwd door Andre (Matthäus Andreas) Stein (1776-1842). Na hun vaders overlijden, werd de firma voortgezet als ‘Frère et Soeur Stein’. Toen Nannette trouwde met Johann Andreas Streicher, ging Andre Stein vanaf 1802 door onder zijn eigen naam. Andre Stein kende ook Ludwig van Beethoven, aan wie hij instrumenten leverde (zie artikel Wikipedia).
In de Geelvinck collectie bevinden zich ook twee vleugels, gebouwd door de firma Streicher; een daarvan is regelmatig te horen in het Luther Museum in Amsterdam.
