REMA: Het Eerste Regionale Symposium in Keulen, 28 oktober 2022

REMA, het Europese netwerk voor oude muziek, initieert een nieuwe vorm van kennisuitwisseling. Op 26 oktober vond in het Zentrum für Alte Musik / ZAMUS in Keulen, het eerste van een reeks regionale REMA symposia plaats. Steeds staat het vinden van antwoorden op de gemeenschappelijke uitdagingen van dit moment in het veld van de oude muziek op het programma, maar er komen ook initiatieven, ‘best practices’ en uitwisseling van projecten op nationaal en regionaal niveau plaats. De algemeen gedeelde ervaring van de post-Covid periode tot nu toe is, dat de bezoekersaantallen sterk achterblijven bij vóór de pandemie. Een ander inzicht is dat geijkte vormen van muziekuitvoeringen nog maar zelden publiekstrekkers blijken te zijn. Nieuwe paden betreden in de publiekspresentatie; andere, verrassende combinaties van disciplines en stijlen blijken soms juist wel het publiek en vaak ook nieuw en ander publiek aan te spreken. Hiervoor kunnen juist de regionale bijeenkomsten vruchtbare ervaringen en voorbeelden van ‘best practices’ opleveren. Het REMA symposium in Keulen was daar een uitstekend voorbeeld van.

REMA REGIONAL MEETING KÖLN

On Tuesday 26 October, REMA is inaugurating a new type of conference, open to all the early music stakeholders from specific countries or regions. The aim is to address common challenges, as well as to facilitate the circulation of projects and initiatives at a national and regional level.

REMA’s first regional conference will take place in Köln, Germany, at the invitation of the Zentrum für Alte Musik (ZAMUS) and in partnership with FREO – Freie Ensembles und Orchester in Deutschland. All the different stakeholders of the German early music scene (ensembles, festivals, students, researchers, labels…), REMA members or not, are invited to participate in this full day of panels, keynote speeches, workshops and concerts dedicated to the theme of fair employment and pay and the networking of German based professionals.

SUSTAINABILITY IN THE MUSIC SECTOR: SHIFT PROJECT

The project SHIFT provides training offers for cultural leaders, working together and creating paths to face such global challenges. Implementing changes where needed and passing on the gained knowledge to leaders and staff members, of cultural networks and the broader cultural sector. The session will allow participants to explore tools for sustainable development within the music sector that have been developed through the SHIFT project. Climate action, gender and power relations as well as inclusion will be in the focus.

SUSTAINABILITY WORKSHOP: FOR A FAIRER SECTOR

How can Early Music stakeholders act for a fairer, more sustainable world? How can we arbitrate between urgent, necessary changes, and our lack of room for flexibility? How does sustainability challenge our definitions of success and touring?
As an engaged network, sustainability is at the core of REMA’s project. A follow-up on a first collective thinking that took place among REMA members last April, this workshop aims to nurture this initial reflection from the perspective of the German early music sector.
